We’ve been waiting on pins and needles for this day to arrive! Sarah and Toney are finally able to hold the grand opening for their new 5 Borough Bagels location in Urbandale. Stop by and check out their NY Style bagels and locally roasted Capital City coffee. Stick around for the official ribbon cutting at 3 p.m. 
 

Dome After Dark at the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden

Experience the Garden in a new light at Dome After Dark! It’s honestly very pretty and a great date idea. Most Fridays from now through March 31, stroll through the lush conservatory and Gardeners Show House illuminated with unique lighting and luminarias. This family friendly event will include food and drink available for purchase from Trellis Café.  It’s also a great low-cost date night idea. Normal admission rates apply!

When the snow finally recedes and melts as the calendar turns to spring, there are plenty reminders of winter still left behind.  Chili Cook-off at Firetrucker Brewing

Think you’ve got a killer chili recipe? Put it to the test at Firetrucker’s chili cook-off this Sunday! For $25, chefs will receive a growler of beer for the chili and two pints for their own personal enjoyment. Chefs in turn will bring in 2 gallons of chili and any desired fixings for the tasting. Prizes will be awarded for the top 3 contenders and include growlers for 2nd and 3rd place and a full keg for 1st. Don’t feel like cooking? For $10, get a tasting ticket and a free pint!

Join Chris James of Coffalo Coffee and Pollinate Ritual for some fresh air out at Brown’s Woods. This hike will take approximately an hour depending on the routes taken. Be sure to outfit yourself in the proper hiking gear as it’ll likely be muddy! Chris will have coffee ready for participants to sip on and warm up with at the end of the hike!

Get your buddies together and put your knowledge to the test for this trivia night hosted by Think & Drink Entertainment and Bellhop. The kitchen is open late and they’ve got half priced drafts and $4 dais so even if you lose at trivia, you’ll come out feeling like a winner!
