Sunset Paddle with SUP Yoga DSM at Easter Lake

Want to try something new? How about paddle boarding on Easter Lake? You have your choice of an intro to paddle boarding class or a stand up paddle boarding yoga class! Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) Yoga uses specialized yoga paddleboards for a new challenge to your practice and connects you with nature, all leading to a sweet floating savasana. Not ready to try SUP Yoga? More interested in just paddling around? Choose their intro long class for the paddling basics and a leisurely paddle around the lake. We’re partial to the sunset paddle at 7 p.m.

First Friday in the East Village

First Fridays are back for the spring and summer seasons! Stop by your favorite East Village stores, bars, and restaurants while they stay open late the first Friday of every month. Parking is free from 5-8 p.m. in designated retail areas. Check the events calendar each month to see what promos businesses will be offering! We have our eye on several including The Rook Room popping up at Daisy Chain, this comic book pop-up at Storyhouse Bookpub, and getting aura pictures taken at KIN.

Did you know Des Moines has a seasonal outdoor beer garden? It open Wednesday through Sunday through to Fall. Willkommen im Des Moines Biergarten! Set among the mature trees of Water Works Park, Des Moines Biergarten is a family-friendly popup German-themed beer garden offering steins of beer and German inspired eats.

Iowa Cubs Pride Night

Shows at Teehee’s Comedy Club

Put your shower singing skills to the test at Teehee’s Comedy Club every Friday from 11 p.m. to close. Admission is free and all performer tips will be donated to an awesome charity they’ve chosen for the week! Check out Saturday’s line up as well. Lanaland is “an unbelievable drag experience with performers from all over Des Moines and the midwest. Curated and headlined by the one of top drag performers in the country, Lana Luxx!” Check it out and show your support as we kick off Pride Month.

Downtown Farmer’s Market

New here? The Downtown Farmers’ Market is an open-air street market located in the Historic Court District in Downtown Des Moines (DSM). Vendors will be set up outdoors on Court Avenue and adjacent side streets. It feels especially huge since it was limited to the pandemic and it’s back to full size. It’s one of the best in the country! Don’t miss it this summer. 


Iowa Craft Brew Festival

  • Saturday, June 3, VIP 12 – 1 p.m. , General Admission 1-4 p.m.

The biggest beer festival in Iowa will feature more than 80 breweries and cideries sampling over 300 craft beverages. You’re not going to wanna miss this! General admission is $50. Free parking and a full day of unlimited samples plus live music and local food vendors.

We love the summer yoga options around Downtown Des Moines! Des Moines Performing Arts is offering Yoga on the Commons every Sunday morning at Cowles Commons. Each week’s practice will be held by a different instructor. Classes will be offered as a free-will donation, with all proceeds benefiting Des Moines Performing Arts.
