This is the event of the weekend – hands down. From silent discos to pet parades to fashion shows, this weekend is going to be SO FUN in the East Village. This technically isn’t listed on the official “Pride Fest” list of events, but don’t forget to check out 509 City Vintage Market happening right around the corner on Friday and Saturday! Pop in to shop curated vintage goods including this special collection curated by @bungalowbydesign. The building is across from Bellhop and has a 509 above the door – you can’t miss it!


Sunset Stand Up Paddleboarding at Easter Lake

Want to try something new? How about paddle boarding on Easter Lake? You have your choice of an intro to paddle boarding class or a stand up paddle boarding yoga class! We love to go at sunset when the weather is nice. Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) Yoga uses specialized yoga paddleboards for a new challenge to your practice and connects you with nature, all leading to a sweet floating savasana. Not ready to try SUP Yoga? More interested in just paddling around? Choose their intro long class for the paddling basics and a leisurely paddle around the lake. It’s a great way to use $20!

It’s no secret that we love the Surety Hotel. We hosted our first year in business at a happy hour there last month and have it listed under several of our guides, including as a bachelorette destination. Now, their beautiful courtyard is finally open serving delicious slushies, small bites, live music, and is dog friendly! Check it out soon along with our other favorite patios listed here


Plant Life Pizza Picnic

Head to a lovely evening in Van Meter with wood-fired pizza and delicious food. Chef Jacob of Crafted Food Services is preparing and cooking seasonally inspired wood-fired pizzas in the Plant Life gardens, highlighting ingredients from local farms. Your ticket includes 1) 10″ wood fired pizza, appetizers, veggies, dessert and 2 drinks. Additional drinks will be available for purchase at the cantina. There will be three varieties of pizza to choose from with four different reservation times based on your schedule!

Before we head over to Pride Fest, the Des Moines Girl team is headed down to the farmers’ market this weekend together to see what we all prefer to buy with just $30. Join us and show us what your favorites are. The weather is supposed to be perfect! New here? The Downtown Farmers’ Market  an open-air street market located in the Historic Court District in Downtown Des Moines (DSM). Vendors will be set up outdoors on Court Avenue and adjacent side streets. It’s one of the best in the country!


Super Secret Brunch Club at Secret Admirer

Northern Vessel is an awesome coffee company that closed it’s doors last year. Now, it’s back on Saturdays at Secret Admirer for the perfect place to stop after browsing through the farmers’ market. Grab a coffee, grab a mimosa, or grab both, and then relax on Secret Admirers’ perfect patio. Super Secret Brunch Club starts this Saturday at 10 a.m. and @ohhighbakery is back providing gourmet pop tarts! 


Global Greens Farmers’ Market

Another extremely important market to hit up – especially if you’re near the Drake neighborhood! Shop for delicious locally-grown produce for you and your family while supporting new Iowans who have a passion for farming! Global Greens Farmers’ Market serves as a platform for former refugees to sell their produce and bolster their small farming businesses. Hosted by Lutheran Services of Iowa.

Chelcie Lynn: The Tammy Tour at Hoyt Sherman Place

“Chelcie Lynn is a comedian, actress, and internet personality who was recently named one of Variety’s 2021 Top 10 Comics To Watch. She started building a fan base in 2014 when her sketches featuring her alter ego, Trailer Trash Tammy went viral. Her videos have since gained hundreds of millions of views across the internet, and have launched her career on screen and in comedy touring. Chelcie will be shooting a prank television series this fall for a major streaming platform, which will air in 2022.”

The Republic on Grand is opening  at 11 a.m. this Sunday, June 12 so that you can watch the Capital City Pride Parade from above with a craft cocktail in-hand! 🥂 Their indoor lounge and west patio will have perfect views of the parade on Grand Ave—air conditioning is a plus!


Brunch + Yoga at Willow on Grand
