The Iowa Wild is the American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the NHL’s Minnesota Wild. It’s like the Iowa Cubs of hockey. They’re playing at home in Wells Fargo arena on Friday and Saturday this week.

Regardless of if you haven’t gotten your hands on an Egg King sandwich or if you go every week, its fun to be at The Hall on Saturday mornings. Find yourself a table, order on the app, grab yourself some drinks and enjoy the large TV screens. Pretty chill and delicious. Ok, maybe you’re a pro skier and snowboarder and this is ridiculous to you. But to us, complete novices in our late twenties? This is actually doable…and kind of fun! Drive north to Seven Oaks for a fun day of skiing, snowboarding, or snow tubing. Snow tubing tickets must be purchased online. Ski/snowboard tickets are first come, first serve. They serve food and some beer in the lodge! Hit up Whatcha Smokin’ for amazing BBQ on the way back to Des Moines.

Sanaa ya Sanaa (Saa-Nee-ah ya Saa-Nee ah) celebrates Black History and the Black Cultural Arts and includes family activity workshops from 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM; Refreshments from 1:30 PM – 2 PM; and An Art Showcase from 2 PM – 4 PM at the Des Moines Botanical Garden this Saturday. Simon Estes is the guest of honor as the day celebrates aspects of African culture including fashion, visual arts, dance, and poetry. The event is free!

Josh Alton Comedy Show at Surety Hotel

After playing his final collegiate football game, Alton hung up his cleats and shoulder pads for a microphone and a note pad and began doing stand up comedy. He moved from Des Moines, Iowa to Chicago where he studied improv at the famous Second City Theater and continued doing stand up. Eventually Alton became a regular performer at several Chicago comedy clubs including, the Improv, the Laugh Factory, and Riddles Comedy Club.
