Have you noticed our branding?

You’re reading this article, so that means something about our branding spoke to you – whether it be the colors, photos, or logo that caught your eye.

Did you notice the hidden 801 Grand building in the “M”? Thought so.

When we first decided to pursue Des Moines Girl, we knew that good branding was important. The branding process is obviously fun – it brings your dreams to life – but it also pays to invest in a professional. Professional designers and illustrators can elevate your own ideas into a clear, visual personality with a clear head. In other words, it allows you to get out of your own way when you have a million other items to tackle. The final brand pays for itself by building the credibility to command higher prices for your products or services.

We’re not in the business of selling anything, but our branding allows us to stand out on your Instagram feed that may have led you here today.

Meet Rachel Krier

Rachel is a graphic designer and illustrator who loves mixing strategy with meaningful design to help local businesses grow. She’s a Des Moines native living in the area who is about to get married. Should we cover her wedding for future bride inspiration? Probably.

She worked with us this winter to bring Des Moines Girl to life, and it was the easiest, most rewarding process we could’ve imagined!

Let’s take you behind the scenes.

The Branding Process

If it’s not already clear, our usual M.O. is to slide in to people’s DMs. This was no different. Rachel was gracious and sent us an email with a welcome packet that listed her services, packages, and pricing information.

She was more than happy to work with us for a custom selection of “a la carte” services in a package we tackled in phases. For example, we wanted designs for a logo, Instagram highlights, and color palette first, but a business card and Instagram Stories later.

After an email brain dump from us to Rachel about our vision, she was off! In about a week’s time, she delivered her first proofs. We were expecting one or two variations, but she gave us FIVE options for a logo and secondary mark.

Take a look at the first proof she sent us!

We were in love and had a hard time narrowing down the concepts. You clearly know one of the finalists, can you guess the other?

After only one round of edits, she finalized the brand guide and provided us with the files in every form imaginable. In other words, she nailed it. We can’t wait to continue on with our expansion of this brand and spend more time with her!

Do you like what we chose? Would you have gone another direction?  Let us know in the comments below!
