Mainframe Studios Presents: The Sepia Club Revival

There was a time when The Sepia Club on Center Street was a social hub for jazz musicians. They would come from all across the country to gather and play in Des Moines. The Sepia Club Revival is a night that pays homage to the history of the Center Street and and its once thriving Black commerce and culture. Cameron Gray will kickoff the event 5 p.m. with an artist talk. The ticketed performances begin at 7 p.m. and feature comedian Bernard Bell as emcee, opening act MFKS, a soul-jazz organ trio, and headliner B. Well. 

Dome After Dark at the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden

Experience the Garden in a new light at Dome After Dark! It’s honestly very pretty and a great date idea. Most Fridays from now through March 31, stroll through the lush conservatory and Gardeners Show House illuminated with unique lighting and luminarias. This family friendly event will include food and drink available for purchase from Trellis Café.  It’s also a great low-cost date night idea. Normal admission rates apply!
 

Midnight Munchies at Creme

Des Moines needed this! So excited to see this late night dessert bar option with great sweets and drinks perfect for a date or date with yourself night. We also love Creme in the daytime for a quick break, loading up on local sweets, or sending some quick emails.


Glow Flow at Yoga + Co.

Get your glow on at Yoga + Co. for this specialty flow. Lindsay will lead the class in a fun, upbeat Vinyasa flow with some killer tunes – all in the dark. Wear your whites and brights to really take advantage of the black lights! Glow sticks and paint are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. This class is $15 and all guests will go home with a lululemon gift.

The Plant Dealer and Planted in DSM are joining forces and hosting a vintage pop up at The Plant Dealer’s Warehouse! What can you expect? Only the best relics, decor, gifts, houseplants, and art from your favorite vintage vendors and curators.

The Bartender’s Handshake and Lachele’s Fine Foods are bringing the after ski party to you. Join them on the heated patio for hot drinks, cold beers, and delicious burgers – meat and veggie options are both available. Don your best Après-ski apparel and you could win a $50 bar tab! They’ll be serving up free koozies and drink specials all day long.

Gateway Dance Theatre Presents: Sanaa ya Sanaa

“Come celebrate Black culture and history with Gateway Dance Theatre! On Saturday, February 25, “Sanaa ya Sanaa” (Swahili for “Art in Art”) will delight audiences with music, dance, prose, fashions, and more! Guest artists include Courageous Fire and Imani Family Church Disciples Choir. Also featured are “Crowns, Portraits of Black Women in Church Hats” and Star of Africa fashion show.” Admission is free but donations are welcomed and encouraged.

Hit up Confluence to check out their trio of “Dad” beers being released in conjunction with a fabulous brunch! Tickets must be purchased in advance and are $100. The price of the ticket includes: a 50’s dad mug, 1-10 oz pour of each of the Dad beers, a trio of to-go Dad beers and a full brunch. Brunch items are: eggs, sausage, bacon, fruit, pastries, breakfast potatoes, and all-you-can-eat pancakes! Dressing up in 50’s Dad attire isn’t required but definitely encouraged.

BLK & Bold and Teehee’s Presents: Laugh Together!

“Teehee’s Comedy Club and BLK & Bold speciality beverages presents a night of comedy, charity and culture. In honor of Black History Month, come out and enjoy great talent and a space to laugh, be you and give back to the community. Proceeds from the event will go to BLK & Bold’s pledge partners across the country that help provide resources to youth in need. Proceeds from the night will also go to a featured local organization in Des Moines, Spark Foundation.”
