Mainframe Studios’ “First Friday” Open House

Ya know that colorful building downtown? That’s Mainframe! “Weave your way through our open studios at this fiber-focused event. We’re celebrating everything SOFT at Mainframe Studios. Quilting, tufting, fabric design, sock puppets, and more! Enjoy food and beverages provided by Tangerine Food Co plus live music in our contemporary window-lined event space. Make a night of it at Mainframe Studios, where every First Friday of the month they present a new themed art experience that is free and open to the public.”

Newbery medalist Kelly Barnhill and debut novelist Antonia Angress team up to take Des Moines by a storm of feminist prowess with their new releases When Women Were Dragons and Sirens & Muses. Plan to mingle with the authors in Daisy Chain while savoring treats from local baker, Bay Laurel Baking Co. Then, both authors will read from and discuss their novels and chat with us about their work and process before signing books. A perfect bookish evening!

We’re holding off from posting most holiday content until after the election, but there is this holiday boutique happening downtown this weekend for those who like to start celebrating and gift shopping early! There’s something for everyone at the show with hundreds of vendors to explore and unique features to enjoy. Plus, don’t miss Girls Night Out on Friday from 5pm-9pm, with music, prizes, and more.

Fleet Feet Des Moines Free Social Run

Are you a runner or a track star? Join this free 3 mile route every Saturday morning with Fleet Feet for a social jog. All levels welcome and a great way to get into the running community if you’re into that sort of thing. 


Puppy Yoga at Smash Park

Not only is Big Grove one of our favorite places to eat and drink lately, but they’re hosting a game watch party this weekend for ISU’s homecoming. “If you’re not in the stands for Homecoming at Jack Trice, then you gotta be at Big Grove for the Cyclones and West Virginia Mountaineers! The Cardinal & Gold will be kicking off on our huge projector and nearby TVs—with the sound on at 2:30pm for this game on Saturday, November 5.”


FAMILY FRIENDLY: Winnie The Pooh: The Musical at Des Moines Civic Center

Disney’s iconic Winnie the Pooh, Christopher Robin and their best friends Piglet, Eeyore, Kanga, Roo, Rabbit, and Owl (oh… and don’t forget Tigger too!) have come to life in a beautifully crafted musical stage adaptation. Featuring the Sherman Brothers’ classic Grammy Award-winning music with further songs by A.A. Milne, this beautiful fresh stage adaptation is told with stunning life-sized puppetry through the eyes of the characters we all know and love, in a new story from the Hundred Acre Wood.
